The Feast of Theophany -January 6/19
When Thou, O Lord, wast baptized in the Jordan,
the worship of the Trinity was made manifest.
For the voice of the Father bore witness to Thee,
calling Thee His beloved Son!
And the Spirit, in the form of a dove,
confirmed the truthfulness of His word.
O Christ our God, Who hast revealed Thyself
and hast enlightened the world, glory to Thee!
Theophany is the feast which reveals the Most Holy Trinity to the world through the Baptism of the Lord
This feast is called Theophany because at the baptism of Christ the Holy Trinity appeared clearly to mankind for the first time — the Father's voice is heard from Heaven, the Son of God is incarnate and standing physically in the Jordan, and the Holy Spirit descends on Him in the form of a dove.
The celebration of Theophany begins in the morning on the eve of Theophany with the reading of the Royal Hours. In the evening we have a Vesperal Liturgy ending with the Blessing of the Waters.
On the morning of the feast we celebrate Matins and Divine Liturgy followed by a festive meal. After the meal we leave for Doran Beach with the students of St. Michael's School for the blessing of the Pacific Ocean.
