St. Michael's Celtic Festival

Our second annual St. Michael's Celtic Festival was put on by our community and the parents and students of St. Michael's School as a fundraiser for the school and a celebration of our life together. Neighbors friends and celtic music lovers were invited to our festival that featured many fun activities: Scottish games, celtic music, Scottish dancing, a tea room, great barbeque, an Irish pub, theater, crafts and more music.

The whole event is best described in this letter received from one of the musicians that came to perform on our stage.

Father David,

Elfi and I had a very enjoyable day. We enjoyed greatly being around a group of people who clearly were having a good time and enjoying each other's company with generations mixing unself-consciously. Even though we were first time visitors to Holy Dormition, we felt most welcome. My strong impression was that the congregation, young and old, students and everyone actually, seems clearly respectful of the clergy but they were also at ease with them, something I am not used to, perhaps.

I know from experience how complex even a local church festive day can be but at least to an outsider, it ran wonderfully smoothly. Positions were manned (peopled?), hay bales went up and down as needed, lights, sound system, all worked, the day even ran pretty much according to schedule. Now that I think of it, I didn't remember anyone even looking harried! That is an impressive achievement

Although Elfi needed to go, I did get to see "A Night in an Irish Pub" and it was a remarkable production. The amount of talent on that stage was most unexpected and was much appreciated. All in all, it made for a delightful day and I have Taylor Finlay to thank for introducing me to you all.

With best wishes and our thanks for your hospitality,

Steve Gilford
